Matt Nagy had never been a head coach.
As a full-fledged offensive coordinator for just one NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs, he called plays for only five regular-season games under coach Andy Reid plus an AFC wild-card playoff loss to the Tennessee Titans.
In January, the Bears interviewed Nagy along with defensive coordinators Vic Fangio of Chicago and George Edwards of Minnesota, offensive coordinators Josh McDaniels of New England and Pat Shurmur of Minnesota, and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo of Philadelphia.
