MARK ECKEL:


Copy Chief: Eckel retired in May, 2017 after a long career covering the Philadelphia Eagles in which he consistently beat the competition. Presently, he writes feature stories on the Eagles and Packers for NFL Player Engagement.

Eckel began working part-time at his hometown Trenton (N.J.) Times in 1977 before becoming full-time in ’82. He was the newspaper’s Eagles beat writer from 1985-’05 before serving as its sports columnist from 2006-’13. He also served as athletic director at his old high school, Trenton Catholic Academy for four years (2009-13). He returned to the Eagles beat for NJ.com from 2014-’16.

His career in Philly included extensive work in radio and television. He worked as a talk-show host at night and on weekends at WIP-AM Radio for 15 years. He also served as a regular guest on Eagles TV shows for Comcast Sportsnet and Fox 29.

For years, he served as a correspondent for Sports Illustrated and The Sporting News. He has won several national awards in the Associated Press Sports Editors contest.

Eckel is the author of four books on the Eagles. His latest is The Big 50: The Men and Moments That Made the Philadelphia Eagles.
